CaLby2030 at the OMC conference >> April 8th - 10th 2025 - Ravenna, Italy

Every 2 years the city of Ravenna, Italy hosts the OMC Med Energy Conference & Exhibition to debate the future of energy in the Mediterranean region and beyond. In April 2025, CaLby2030 presented the article The importance of social acceptance approaches in CC(U)S projects, examples from three Horizon Europe projects: HERCCULES, ENCASE and CALBY2030 written by Martina Fantini (EU CORE Consulting), Jose L. Oviedo (ICMAN-CSIC), Pablo del Río (IPP-CSIC) and Giulio Buffo (Iren S.p.a), and others.

Presenting social acceptance approaches in a mainly technical context stimulated the audience’s interest, leading to questions and exchanges that highlighted both the opportunities of considering these aspects, (for instance, improving local acceptance when CO2 is used for synthetic fuels or when projects create additional employment) and the risks of neglecting them, (such as resistance to CO2 storage options perceived as less safe).
