USTUTT

The Institute of Combustion and Power Plant Technology (IFK) at the University of Stuttgart (USTUTT), one of the leading nine technical universities in Germany (TU9), has specialized in energy research for more than 50 years. One of our main research areas is CO2 separation, including oxyfuel, pre- and post-combustion capture technologies. To know more: https://www.ifk.uni-stuttgart.de/en/

Within CaLby2030, USTUTT is:

  1. leading the WP dedicated to “Pilot demonstration of CFB-CaL for Cement plants”leading the WP dedicated to “Pilot demonstration of CFB-CaL for Cement plants”
  2. designing, performing and evaluating pilot tests at its pilot facility MAGNUS
  3. providing solid samples from CaL to test usability as kiln feed for clinker production; and
  4. editing measurement results and operating data for process modelling in other WPs

The most relevant CCUS projects where USTUTT is and has been involved in, are:

  • CEMCAP –  Horizon2020 project (GA 641185) on experimental evaluation of different CO2 capture technologies for cement production, completed 31/10/2018. USTUTT was responsible for Oxy-fuel and Calcium Looping. The experience from calcium looping will serve as valuable basis for the work in CaLby2030.
  • CLEANKER – Horizon2020 project working towards the advancement of the integrated Calcium-looping process for CO2 capture in cement plants. http://www.cleanker.eu/
  • BackCap is a project funded by RFCS (GA 101034000). This project aims to develop a new process to capture CO2 from amortized coal-based power plants, retrofitted for back-up power provision in highly renewable electricity networks, while supplying CO2 for use or storage.  https://delegacion.asturias.csic.es/backcap/
