SWERIM
SWERIM is a leading industrial research institute within mining engineering, process metallurgy, materials, manufacturing engineering and applications. Swerim’s strength is in applied research for resource-efficient and sustainable industry, whereby the company has solid knowledge and experience when it comes to applying research results in practical industrial applications. Swerim’s facilities include laboratories in Luleå and Stockholm, offering testbeds and demonstrators; a linux cluster offering high computation capacity with short simulation times; measurement technology to help customer understand process; as well as adopting pilot-plant facilities to match customer-specific conditions as a transferable scale.
Within CaLby2030, SWERIM is:
- Leading the WP “Pilot demonstration of CFB-CaL integrated in Steel industries”
- Responsible of constructing the pilot plant for demonstrating CO2 capture from electrical-based steel processes-
- Leading the experimental TRL6 campaigns in Sweden
The most relevant CCUS projects where SWERIM is and has been involved in, are:
- INITIATE – Horizon2020 funded project to reduce carbon footprint by re-using residual steel gases for the manufacturing of urea, INITIATE Project | A stepwise project (initiate-project.eu)
- C4U – Horizon2020 funded project demonstrating two solid based CO2 capture technologies integrated in industrial applications, C4U Project | Advancing Carbon Capture for the Steel Industry (c4u-project.eu)
- FReSMe – Horizon2020 funded project to recover CO2 and H2 from industrial blast furnace gas and use in combination with make-up H2 from electrolysis for the green production of methanol. From residual steel gasses to methanol | FReSMe | Project | Fact sheet | H2020 | CORDIS | European Commission (europa.eu)
